iherb: the paleo food heaven

Food allergies are difficult. They make cooking, shopping, dinner at Restaurants etc. really hard. And the most complicated part for me often is, to find a replacement of something I can not eat and still feel like I eat something great and do not have any lack of taste. Since I was diagnosed with PCOS, moved to France without knowing any stores I had to find new ways of groceries shopping. After searching many stores in Paris, we realized, we needed a bigger range of different kind of food replacements. That’s why we started to look for online supermarkets.

One of the first things we found, love and want to introduce you to, is: iherb. iherb is an online supermarket where you can find products, that are gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, low-carb, organic etc. iherb is a US online supermarket that is shipping orders to Europe.

The amazing thing about that is, that the US is mostly offering a bigger range of healthy food. But most of those brands in the US do not do affordable or any kind of shipping. iherb offers free shipping when ordering with Colissimo and the products are still affordable.

If you are diagnosed with PCOS the best way to get gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free and low carb products on iherb, is to look in the paleo category. Paleo actually combines all of those things. Amazing, right?

Our 8 favourite iherb Items

As iherb is huge and can be overwhelming, we picked 9 of our favourite items and will quickly explaining you what it is and what it can replace!

  1. Monk fruit sugar: I was looking for a sugar replacement forever. And then I found this piece of heaven. Monk fruit sugar has zero calories, does not have any influence on your insulin levels and taste like normal, brown sugar. You can use it for anything you want: from cooking, baking to sweeten your tea.

  2. Almond flour: you can find almond flour in almost every supermarket, so there is no need to order it at iherb. But I prefer to have one big package of high quality almond flour, as I use it for so many different recipes. This one is soft, tasty and comes in a good package size.

  3. Cassava flour: to find a good gluten free flour replacement that is not almond or coconut flour isn’t that easy. That’s why I love to use cassava flour when I am baking cake or bread.

  4. Sugar free dark chocolate: this is one of my favourite chocolates as it is dark, sugar free and still tasty. One package is 2,85€ for 100 gram so even the price is pretty good.

  5. Simple Mills snack bars: Finding good gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, low carb snacks is really difficult. But simple mills makes it simple. They have the best, healthy snack bars. You have to try them. One of my favourites is the Soft-Baked Almond Flour Bars.

  6. Low carb coconut wraps: who does not love wraps? If you look for a low-carb and gluten-free option, this one is for you. We prefer the one flavoured with turmeric for our lunch times.

  7. Coconut Secret, Teriyaki Sauce: As Soya Sauce and Teriyaki Sauce often contain gluten and are not histamine free, we found coconut aminos. Our favourite is this teriyaki sauce as it easily replaces sweet soya sauce and a normal teriyaki sauce.

  8. Walden Farms, Chocolate Dip: If you love to bake as much as I do, you probably know that it is hard to find a good, low sugar replacement for chocolate. But this sauce makes dreams come true! It is perfect for Brownies or any kind of baking session.

Besides our favourite Items, there are many things to try. We do not have any kind of partnership with iherb, we just truly love their products and how they make our shopping experience a bit more easy. Have fun exploring.
